WHO WAS MISS BEE? - IN MEMORY OF MS. BEE
I am Kinyatta E. Gray, the only child of the late and extraordinary Ms. Beverly E. Carroll, affectionately known as “Miss Bee.” On October 21, 2018, my world came to a sudden and devastating halt when my mother unexpectedly passed away. It took every ounce of strength in my bee-loved heart not to leave this earth with her—because when she transitioned, my soul shattered into pieces. This space, this website, is my tribute to her legacy, a living heartfelt hive of resources and love for those who have lost their mothers. I stand by this truth: the deeper the love, the deeper the grief. No one has the right to tell you how to grieve or how long to carry the weight of your loss. My mom was not just my mother. She was my sister in spirit, my best friend in the world, my confidante, and my fiercest protector. Losing her felt like losing my entire hive—the person who had my back in every way possible. Miss Bee was a writer, a singer, and a cherished light in the lives of so many who knew her. She embodied compassion, warmth, sincerity, and a heart big enough to touch all who crossed her path. To know her was to feel love itself. I wrote my very first book, 30 Days, as an act of love—to honor her dream of becoming a published author. She didn’t get the chance to hold her own book in her hands, but I took her vision the rest of the way and became a published author for her.

Kinyatta E. Gray is the Founder of The Heart of Miss Bee but also the beloved daughter of the iconic figure, Miss Bee. Gray is a bestselling author, entrepreneur and a Certified Master Life Coach. Kinyatta has over 18 years of federal government experience serving as a Senior Program Manager responsible for developing leader development strategies, advising, planning, execution and management. In 2023 Kinyatta was name the DMV Remarkable Women winner by Nexstar Media Group. Kinyatta's journey began with a deep desire to carry forward her mother's legacy of kindness and advocacy. Growing up in the presence of such a remarkable woman inspired Kinyatta to dedicate her life to empowering others and making a positive difference in society. The Heart of Miss Bee, an organization founded by Kinyatta, has become a shining beacon of hope in our community. In addition to spearheading charitable efforts, Kinyatta also strives to create awareness about social issues that her mother held dear. Moreover, Kinyatta's leadership extends beyond the realm of The Heart of Miss Bee. She actively collaborates with other nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and community leaders to enhance the collective impact in addressing societal challenges. Her unwavering dedication and inclusive approach have garnered immense respect and admiration from all corners. Kinyatta E. Gray's leadership is characterized not only by her profound devotion to serving others but also by her genuine warmth and compassion. Her innate ability to empathize with those facing adversity has transformed The Heart of Miss Bee into a sanctuary of hope, where individuals are uplifted, supported, and loved. While Miss Bee's extraordinary legacy lives on through her daughter, Kinyatta E. Gray has forged her own path of philanthropy and community engagement. Kinyatta has over 18 years of federal government experience serving as a Senior Program Manager responsible for developing leader development strategies, advising, planning, execution and management. In 2023 Kinyatta was name the DMV Remarkable Women winner by Nexstar Media Group. Kinyatta's journey began with a deep desire to carry forward her mother's legacy of kindness and advocacy. Growing up in the presence of such a remarkable woman inspired Kinyatta to dedicate her life to empowering others and making a positive difference in society. The Heart of Miss Bee, an organization founded by Kinyatta, has become a shining beacon of hope in our community. In addition to spearheading charitable efforts, Kinyatta also strives to create awareness about social issues that her mother held dear. Moreover, Kinyatta's leadership extends beyond the realm of The Heart of Miss Bee. She actively collaborates with other nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and community leaders to enhance the collective impact in addressing societal challenges. Her unwavering dedication and inclusive approach have garnered immense respect and admiration from all corners. Kinyatta E. Gray's leadership is characterized not only by her profound devotion to serving others but also by her genuine warmth and compassion. Her innate ability to empathize with those facing adversity has transformed The Heart of Miss Bee into a sanctuary of hope, where individuals are uplifted, supported, and loved. Reverend Leland Core - Vice President of The Heart of Miss Bee Reverend Core is a member of The Heart of Miss Bee Board of Directors and serves as the Vice President. Rev. Core is a Pastor, public speaker, corporate leader, and Certified Life and Master Mental Health Coach. With a heart for ministry in prisons and a passion for team building, Reverend Core is highly skilled at creating impactful and meaningful experiences for individuals and groups. Throughout his career, Rev. Core has honed his ability to effectively convey messages of hope, inspiration, and motivation to diverse audiences. His expertise in writing and delivering dynamic sermons has been proven in various settings, including churches, conferences, and outreach events, connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds. His ability to passionately deliver thought-provoking messages has seen individuals and groups experience spiritual and personal growth. For over ten years, he has focused on ministering in prisons, where he has had the privilege of bringing hope and healing to inmates through the power of the Gospel. His experience in team building has been valuable in his pastoral, corporate, and prison ministry work. Rev. Core can bring people together, build relationships, and create a sense of unity and cooperation among diverse groups. He has led retreats and workshops for church staff, volunteer teams, and inmates to foster positive change. He currently holds a BS in Engineering Management and is working towards his Master's Degree in Leadership and then a Doctoral program. He believes we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us.

Takiya Green-Hall, MSW - Secretary of The Heart of Miss Bee Takiya Green-Hall is an author, inspirational speaker, wife, mother & co-host of Candid Convos with Tei and Kiya; Takiya is a native of Baltimore. She attended Morgan State University, where she received her undergraduate degree in Social Work in 2000. Takiya received the Outstanding Supportive Counseling Award from the Challengers Independent Living Program. She earned her master's degree in Social Work from the prestigious Howard University in 2006. She would also continue her advocacy in 2018 by starting Don't Ignore the Scars LLC. This organization promotes awareness while providing healing supportive services for adolescents struggling with Self-Harm/Self-Injury. Takiya has also published a memoir alongside her daughter Vee entitled Victimless Soldiers!!! Takiya works as a Casework Specialist and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Maryland State Government. With her 23 years of Child Welfare experience, Takiya passionately continues her mission of strengthening families by providing prevention services, education, and resources to help empower & protect vulnerable youth and adults.

It regulates your body. Hands in soil activate grounding and calm the nervous system. It gives grief somewhere to go. You cannot resurrect the person you lost. But you can nurture something that still responds to your care. It teaches seasons. Not everything blooms at once. Not even you.

Bloom - Start Small
You do not need a greenhouse to begin. You do not need a backyard, raised beds, or a perfectly curated plan. You need one pot. One plant. One small yes. Healing does not require grand gestures. It often begins with something simple and living, a peppermint plant in your kitchen window, a small pot of basil on your counter, a handful of soil under your fingernails. Start with what you can tend. Peppermint is one of my favorites because it grows generously. It responds to care. It reminds you that life can return again and again, even after being cut back. Let this be your permission: begin where you are. Tend what is within reach. Watch what grows. Sometimes the smallest plant becomes the first sign that you are blooming, too.
